    Bash Bish Falls near Brook n Wood Campground Bash Bish Falls
    The waters of Bash Bish Falls begin at a spring in Mount Washington and after the falls, Bash Bish Brook continues on a gentler course through New York State until joining the Hudson River and flows through Copake. The waterfall is at the mouth of a gorge formed during the last ice age. At the rear of the gorge, opposite the waterfall, is a 194 feet (59 m) sheer rock wall.

    Catamount Adventure Park is an exciting aerial forest adventure that provides a variety of courses that are fun for all ability levels. After participants are fitted with harnesses, they are led through a safety and park usage demonstration, fitted with gloves and are then free to navigate their chosen treetop courses.

    With twelve courses of varying difficulties (think ski trails; yellow, green, blue, black and double black), you are challenged to cross bridges, climb ladders, obstacles and zip lines. The park is built to meet the standards of the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT).

    The Harlem Valley Rail Trail, two sections totaling 15 paved miles through stunning rural Dutchess and Columbia County landscapes. Since the mid-1980’s, the Harlem Valley Rail Trail Association has dreamed of a 46-mile rail trail in the Harlem Valley and Taconic Hills of eastern New York. The first segment of the trail opened in 1996.

    Since then, the trail has grown in 1997, 2000, and 2005. Another 13 miles of abandoned rail bed are in different development stages, and most of another 18 miles have been acquired to take the Trail north into the Village of Chatham.

    The Stissing Fire Tower stands on one acre of ground, both of which are owned by Friends of Stissing Landmarks (FOSL), a not-for-profit organization created to save and preserve the tower for public enjoyment.

    The shortest and easiest point of access is from Lake Road in Pine Plains, just down from the Thompson Pond Preserve entrance on the bend of the road. The ascent to the tower begins by crossing approximately 100 yards of Nature Conservancy property, after which the trails cross private property all the way to the tower.

    This scenic 18-hole course offers a panoramic view of the beautiful Hudson River and majestic Catskill Mountains from the Ogden Mills & Ruth Livingston Mills State Park. It is the third oldest golf course in the country. Built as a private 9-hole course in the 1890s, it was an amenity to the estates of the Dinsmore, Hoyt and Mills families. The land was donated by Helen Hull. The original course, which is now the south nine, was expanded to 18 holes in 1962.

    Windham Country Club is an 18-hole public golf course located in the scenic Northern Catskills of New York State. Designed in 1928 by Len Raynor, the course was remodeled in 1964.     Windham Country Club offers everything for the golfer: a five-acre driving range, putting green, lockers, bag storage and a Pro Shop that is award-winning.

For more than 30 years the Friends have effectively collaborated with the State in protecting, enhancing, and promoting this special place.

    The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum is America’s first presidential library -- and the only one used by a sitting president. It was conceived and built under President Roosevelt’s direction and opened to the public in 1941.

    The Library’s mission is to foster research and education on the life and times of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and their continuing impact on contemporary life. Our work is carried out by four major areas: Archives, Museum, Education and Public Programs.

    Since its opening, the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse has been operated and maintained by the United States Coast Guard. However, in 1967, then Governor, Nelson A. Rockefeller, established the Hudson River Valley Commission to explore possible uses for the Hudson River Lighthouses. The Commission recommended that the Coast Guard deed over or lease the facilities to public or not-for-profit groups. These groups would then rehabilitate, maintain and operate the facilities for public benefit.

    Overlooking the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie New York, the 200-acre Locust Grove Estate includes an Italianate villa designed in 1851 for artist and inventor Samuel F. B. Morse by architect A. J. Davis. Today the estate, with miles of carriage roads, landscaped grounds, historic gardens and Hudson River views, is an independent not-for-profit museum and nature preserve established by Annette Innis Young, whose inherited collections of art and antiques are exhibited in the mansion’s 25 rooms.
    Martin Van Buren Home and Park near Brook n Wood Campground Martin Van Buren Home and Park

    Politics before the Civil War was a whirlwind of opposing interest groups. Martin Van Buren was able to unite those groups becoming president in 1837. As frustration and violence over the extension of slavery grew in the 1840′s, Van Buren ran for the presidency twice more from this house. He hoped to unite sectional interests but failed; ultimately so did the union.

    Montgomery Place, a serene reflection of nearly 200 years of continuous family stewardship, is best known as a landscape influenced by the great Andrew Jackson Downing and an architectural landmark designed by Alexander Jackson Davis. But the totality of the estate - house, gardens, arboretum, woodlands, orchards, hamlet, and natural features - makes it a unique American treasure.

    The state-of-the-art Education Center is home to public programs that promote The Olana Partnership mission: “To inspire the public by preserving and interpreting Olana, Frederic Church’s artistic masterpiece.” Ongoing programs, classes for all ages, workshops, lectures, special events, meetings, children’s summer programs, performances and exhibitions all take place in this amazing space whose large glass windows overlook the Olana landscape. They offer “drop-in” programs as well as formal programming to encourage new visitors as well as the community to come back to Olana again and again. Programs are mostly free and are offered to students pre-school to adult, ranging from landscape painting for beginners to an advanced lecture on landscape architecture in a contemporary world.

    Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum and Airshows were established in 1993 as 501 (c) (3) non-profit organizations in order to continue Cole Palen’s legacy and ensure the long-term protection and survival of his collection. The Aerodrome’s mission is to obtain, restore, maintain and display Pioneer, World War I and Lindbergh era aircraft, vehicles, related equipment, documents, memorabilia and artifacts of historical significance while seeking to educate the public regarding the historical significance of its collection and the scientific and technological advancements that it represents.

    In the early nineteenth century, many in this country were searching for a style of art that they could call their own - something uniquely American. Painter, poet, and essayist Thomas Cole (1801-1848) responded to this quest by creating pristine landscape paintings unlike any yet seen. His vision of wild and untouched scenery with majestic mountains and tangled forests stood in stark contrast to the gentle landscape images that had come before.

    Clinton Vineyards was established in 1976 by Ben Feder, a Bronx-born book designer and artist who fell in love with New York State’s Mid-Hudson Valley. Inspired by the beautiful wineries and vineyards of the French countryside, where he had spent time as a plein air painter under the GI Bill after World War II, Feder recreated this sublime experience in Dutchess County. He modeled the 100-acre Clinton Vineyards in the tradition of European vineyard estates, and chose to specialize in producing white and sparkling wines, the latter made in the classic French méthode champenoise. The first release, the 1977 Seyval Blanc, garnered strong praise from The New York Times, resulting in an enthusiastic run on all cases.

    Golden Harvest Farm has been owned and operated by the Grout family for over fifty years, but Harvest Spirits is only a recent addition. In 2007, founder Derek Grout convinced his father to turn a cold storage room into a distillery so he could start making apple vodka. After amassing start-up capital for the project and purchasing distillation equipment from Germany, Harvest Spirits started selling their Core apple vodka in 2008, which won a best in class New York Spirits award in 2009.

    Spirits Grove Farm was previously used as a nursery and came with a house, retail center, 100 year old barn, a four acre apple orchard, and four greenhouses. The apples will be used to make an apple based vodka and the greenhouses to grow botanicals and flavorings for their gin. Visitors will see every step of the spirits production process, growing grains and fruits, fermenting, distilling, and bottling. The barn is currently being renovated from the ground up to house the distillery and tasting room, with plans to expand the tasting room into the old nursery retail center in the future.

    Their plan is to be open for business in March 2014.
